DESABA comes as a strategy to communicate a way of thinking and producing; it comes as many actions, speeches, lots of music and movements. Desaba comes as a smooth and acid hedonism, as a fashion, as a practice of liberty.

Desaba in portuguese means collapse, and for us it's understood as an ongoing action that will generate other forms, other materialities. It’s also a way of saying dare you!

Desaba is an association initiated by Cristian Duarte and Thelma Bonavita that aims to develop artistic actions to stimulate critical thinking, as well as to produce conditions for its exercise.
Desaba is a tool to generate autonomy and visibility, so rare in our time.

We think creation comes before project; therefore we developed some procedures to produce a context where our questions are able to find other voices and bifurcations.

Our main interest is to organize, through this experience, a potent and creative network capable of articulating holes of entrances in our system, generating space and visibility of our desires and understandings of the world around us and its diversity.

As characteristic of our artistic practices is the necessity of mobility through diverse areas, different medias and territories, thinking this nomadic reality as a survival strategy to access and share our questions and inquietudes, investing on autonomy as a main factor, to elaborate concepts and knowledge production.

We understand that through the combination of different areas, we might be able to think the contemporary world’s complexity and dare to have temporary responses to it, as well as to project heterotopias*.

This project is entirely committed with today’s society cultural and political processes and searches, through its actions, to create conditions to disseminate ideas, contents and practices that are able to promote other questions and trigger creativity.

On this specific action, we organized a lecture series open to the general audience with the journalist, Dj and fashion editor Jackson Araujo, the semioticist Jorge de Albuquerque Vieira and Psychoanalyst, researcher and independent curator Suely Rolnik.
We propose an artistic residency period, open to 10 participants of any art field (application at the menu bar - residências artísticas) and we will develop a creation to be premiered on March 2009 in São Paulo.

I cannot picture my life without a soundtrack - i stitch together the memories of an imperfect past, present and future with the most varied songs overlapping the images that i cut out from reality and paste onto my internal HD. I appreciate the idea of a kaleidoscope, the fluidity of light over the colors, the swiftness of the gaze intending to capture the possibility of changes. I understand a personal project as a gifted experience for sharing of emotions and content. I learn to inspire (myself) this way. And as such, I keep on musiconnecting, imagnetizing, slidamplifying and experimentalizing the novel in its endless sources of mutation. That’s what you get from being born at the beach, growing up in the Amazon forest, and sweeping the metropoles: with neon bow and arrow, and a silk straw hat on a dog’s head. I have the thirst, a smile of glitter around my teeth and words slipping through the curls in my hair.

Jorge developed interests in fine arts and philosophy in his adolescence, when he had his first contact with semiotics.
At that stage came to discover the Logic and mathematics, which led him to care deeply for Astrophysics.
At the time of electing his graduation studies, he decided for Engineering, taking into account the negative political and cultural circumstances in 1966, though assuming to himself with the same commitment, to resume
further scientific research.
So with a degree in Telecommunications Engineering, he got interested in general characteristics of the concept of Communication, when got in contact with the Theory of Information.

In recent times he has been devoted to researching psychosocial systems, respected as the transition between psychological and individual systems to a social system, studying the systemic processes that affect the flow of information and dynamics of human communication.

His areas of interest are: general system theory, theory of Knowledge, Theory of Complexity and Semiotics (Peirce).
